Beyond the Visible – Hilma af Klint

Inspired by the need to reassess our antiquated dogmas of art history, the documentary brings to light a ground-breaking discovery: the first abstract artist was a woman! The unique world view of the Swedish female artist Hilma af Klint was expressed in a one-of-a-kind abstract manner, well before the famous masters of abstract art known to us from traditional art history reached their defining styles.
The unique oeuvre of Hilma af Klint was exhibited in Kumu in 2015.
The film is shown in conjunction with the exhibition “Creating the Self: Emancipating Woman in Estonian and Finnish Art” in Kumu.
